So today we are going to be talking about one of my favorite sayings that have made quite an impact on my life since the first time I heard it. And the saying is “ Without a date, it’s a dream”. When I first heard this saying, it was mind-blowing for me. I had never really thought about it in that way before but when someone told me this, it made so much sense to me. It also helped me realize that if you want to get anything accomplished in life, you have to tie it to a date and…. I will go one step further to say that even better, tie it to a time on that date. This is really when the magic happens.
So many of us live our lives hoping that “ one day” or “someday” you will do that thing that you have thought about doing sooo many times before…but for some reason it never happens.
But once you begin getting into the habit of taking an extra two minutes and scheduling it, rather than saying to yourself…I’ll do it later…. You will become so much more productive not to mention you will feel more fulfilled.
Here is my challenge for you today. Think about something that you have been wanting to do for some time but have yet to do. Next, think about how long it will take you to do this. Is it something that may take an hour? A full day? A weekend? Now take out your calendar right now and schedule it. Be realistic about how long you think it may take, and block out the necessary time. Now there is one more step in this process. If you are using a digital calendar, set a reminder on your phone 1 week, 1 day, or a few hours beforehand or if you use a paper calendar, write in your reminders in advance, to remind yourself that this needs to be done. These gentle reminders further solidify the commitment that you have made with yourself to follow through and they also help you reaffirm your commitment and plan around it.
I encourage you to try this moving forward….and remember…without a date, it really is a dream!
