So today I want to talk to you about what to do when you are in the midst of feeling overwhelmed with life. In my previous video I talked about how to avoid overwhelm so if you have not had a chance to watch that video yet make sure and click on the link below and watch it after this.
So let me ask you … how do you define overwhelm? What does it look like for you? Think about that for a moment. Becoming really clear about what overwhelm looks and feels like for you is important so that when you are in it, you are better able to recognize it and then take control. And here is the thing, overwhelm can look different for everyone. For some women they feel like they are overloaded with tasks, and for others it may feel like they are spread too thin. There are a number of ways women can feel when they are overwhelmed.
For me, when I am overwhelmed I begin to shut down and it tends to cause me to feel stuck and like I am unable to move forward. And I get it, it is not a good feeling.
But here is the good news. Once you are aware that you are feeling overwhelmed, you can take control of it. So now I want to share with you a few powerful strategies that helps me when I am feeling overwhelmed.
First take a big deep breath in and then exhale slowly. This is by far one of the fastest, easiest and one the most effective ways to curb those intense feelings. Continue breathing slowly and deeply a few times until you begin to feel better.
Second, do a brain dump and journal about everything that is on your mind or your to do list that may be causing you stress. Oftentimes, simply writing it all down , getting it out of your head and onto paper can help a great deal.
And third, reach out to a friend, a mentor, a coach or your doctor and talk through your overwhelm with someone who can help. Reaching out to others who can help you sort through everything can really help you work through the overwhelm and feel so much better, rather than going through it all alone.
So the next time you recognize that you are on the verge of overwhelm, you now have some helpful strategies to help you.
