Hello and Welcome! I am Lori Lander, life and personal growth coach for women and founder of Girls in the Know, a 501c3 nonprofit for girls and I am so glad that you are tuning in today.
I want to talk with you about a topic that many women struggle with and this is something that I personally have struggled with over the years …and that is overwhelm.
Take a moment to think about the last time you were overwhelmed. How did it make you feel? Anxious? Stressed? Like you were drowning? Maybe stuck? And the list goes on and on.
I believe that overwhelm is one of the biggest causes of stress and anxiety for so many women because as nurturers and caretakers we tend to take on way more than we can handle at times. And before we know it we hit the wall.
So today I want to share with you 3 tips that you can begin doing today to help you avoid overwhelm from taking over your life.
First, set a clear intention right here and right now that you do not want to live in overwhelm. And I want to take this one step further. So for me, I like to flip this script to a positive by setting an intention that I want to live a life of peace and calm. So think about whatever the opposite of living in overwhelm means for you and set that as your intention. Simply declaring this is powerful. By setting an intention, you are committing to what you intend to accomplish, and this commitment also helps increase your motivation and inspiration to stay focused.
The second tip that builds on the first one is to begin each day with a positive affirmation about your intention. I will give you a few examples. You could say “ I remain calm and at peace as I carry on with my day” or “I am committed to having a peaceful day”. So take a moment now and think about one positive affirmation that you could say to yourself that begins with the words “ I am”. Then commit to saying this affirmation every morning when you wake up. This will help keep your intention top of mind and start your day off with a positive mindset.
Third set healthy boundaries around your commitments and your time both personally and professionally. Be aware of what you say yes to moving forward. Remember this….For every yes you say to someone else, you are saying no to yourself.
So a quick recap of the 3 strategies to help you avoid overwhelm moving forward are:
First set a clear intention.
Two say a positive affirmation every morning to help keep your intention top of mind.
And Three set healthy boundaries around your commitments and your time both personally and professionally.
